Welcome to the new season 2025/26 at Jolly Harbour Yacht Club.

I write this from a very stormy south coast of the UK, as summer begins to creep towards autumn. If you are like me, your thoughts may be starting to wander onto the golden beaches and turquoise waters of Jolly Harbour. 

The upheavals of flights, insurance, property and boat maintenance and re-commissioning are balanced with the memories of walking on South beach, swimming and sailing in the warm waters off Jolly and the enjoyment of catching up with friends over a cold beer or a rum cocktail at sundown.

There is also the excitement of a new sailing season with the club. To name but a few, we have the following highlights: Saturday racing, Thursday evening Club nights at the new venue of The Fat Urchin (discounted drinks and meals for JHYC members), Thursday Afternoon Social Sailing (TASS) and fantastic dinners at the beach restaurant watching the sun go down.

As many of you know, the number of participants in Antigua and all Caribbean racing is down on previous years. I have been in discussions with Committee Members of the Antigua Yacht Club, and the mutual feeling is that we are stronger together. To that end we will be encouraging our members to take part in each other’s events and there will be joint events in exciting new venues. Watch this space!

So, we look forward to friends, old and new, gathering back in Jolly Harbour. I will see you on the water or if you see me in the bar please come and say hello.
