Saturday Sailing

This year's "Green Island Bash" held on the 16th & 17th of June became a joint AYC & JHYC Challenge with the 2 teams competing against each other with the only rules being...
“there are no rules”!

With a Saturday morning spent beating to windward in reasonably big seas, the following boats made it to the beautiful anchorage on the west side of the island –

Representing JHYC were: Cat Tales 2, Jabberwocky, Miramar, Severance, Atlantia, Blue Peter, Morning Song &, Mackenzi.

The AYC contingent of Magellan, Samadhi, Hornblower and Saraya were convincingly exposed to a lesson in “playing the game” as JHYC took the honours in all games apart from the first.

In this AYC were disqualified for not keeping their possession of an instruction manual for the Gazebo Erection competition to themselves!

The JHYC competitive edge was sharpened considerably by the presence of Kimberley White, 13 year old daughter of Richard & Paula on Morning Song. Kimberley had recently returned from the Inter Caribbean Show Jumping Tournament in Guadeloupe where she came away with the Gold Medal for Antigua, against 28 much older competitors.

After the silly games, a great evening of BarBQ, and music followed with a lot of fun and a some uncontrolled drinking!!

Sunday morning brought 'Bloody Mary’s' and grilled breakfasts and not much energy from anyone to do anything other than sit around, have a few beers and just enjoy the conversation, the sun and the setting.

The retreat was “beat” around midday as yachts slowly started to leave for home with everyone totally satisfied they had had a great time and looking forward to the next event.

This is scheduled for the last weekend in July and provisionally christened the “Carnival Cruise” for a 3 day weekend in Barbuda. If this turns out to be half as good as Green Island, it will be brilliant!

Many, many, sincere thanks to Elizabeth Jordan, Peter, Frank and George for their outstanding efforts in bringing the whole event together and the subsidies provided by AYC.

Thanks also to everyone for supporting yet another great AYC/JHYC joint event. A great time was had by all!!
